Technicolor Shoot

Its been a minute since I've updated this blogsite, but I promise to keep this thing going and on point. So what's happened since the last time I blogged? A lot! Just to bring you up to speed, earlier this summer, on July 4, my MUA, Amina Garrett-Scott hit me up with a concept she wanted to try out. She called it a "Technicolor Shoot" and basically it was her way of doing very colorful makeup combined with colorful fashion for a very colorful shoot. At first I was leary, but once we got into it, it was a great shoot. I invited a couple of  my favorite clients, Aries and Sharron and they had a great time and did an excellent job. Vintage Photography

Kevin B. Watkins Photography and New Vision Photography allows its clients to step back in time by using their creative imaginations to photograph in any era or vintage theme that they can put together. To date, some models have styled and attired themselves in fashions from the 50's and 60's. Others have photographed in the the look and style of the early 80's. Still others creativity took them back to the Prohibition Era as they researched that period and came dressed in the styles that dominated the 20's and 30's. Take a look at some of this month's work!!

Phoenix Band Performs at Centech Group Event

Phoenix' most recent performance at the Centech Group, Inc. Winter Gala Event kept the crowd is a festive and in a party mood with its soulful and smooth music. Performing current and classic dance hits, the Centech Group Inc guests spent most of the night on the dance floor.

Phoenix is the newest, most sought-after, high-energy band in the Washington Metropolitan area. This versatile ten-piece band is comprised of three lead singers, a full three-piece horn section and the most dynamic four-piece rhythm section in town. The talents of Phoenix have been showcased all around the Metropolitan area, from Bar & Bat Mitzvah’s to Presidential Inaugural Celebrations.

Phoenix' 10-piece band is under direction of trumpet player Richard Kessler and features vocalists Kimberly Lewis, Jeri Frye and the energetic Tony Dorsey. The brass section features DuPor Georges (trumbone), Steve Lovecchio (sax) and Richard Kessler (trumpet). On the strings are Rudy Spruill (bass) and Barney Charlton (guitar). Norris Berry (keyboards), and Roderick Johnson (drums) round out the unit.

Centech Group Winter Gala Event

The Centech Group Inc., located in Arlington Virginia hosted its annual Winter Gala Event this past Saturday night, January 29. Centech Group Inc. is a provider of systems and solutions on over 4,000 federal government contracts/task orders and 150 mission critical software development projects.

The Westin Hotel of Falls Church, Virginia was the venue for the gala event attended by upwards of 250 people. In addition to Kevin B. Watkins Photography, select caricaturists provided artistic products for the attendees. The band Phoenix entertained the guests with both current and classics music. I made an attempt to get as many of the guests email addresses, however, I fell a few folks short. If you work for Centech or was one of its invited guests, please feel free to pass this website on to any you feel would like to view the event. Over the next 2-3 days, more and more images from the event will be added, so check back from time to time.

I'd like to thank a few folks who made working this event possible. Ms. Dawne Howard for putting me into contact with Mr. Theodore Sapp. Also a thank you to Mr. Theodore Sapp, who agreed to contract me. Also, big thanks to Mr. Arthur Hawkins, the top-notch photographer who did all of the portrait photography and without whom I couldn't have done this job. And a big thank you to Ms. Bernadette McCarter, my hostess who kept everyone, including myself organized and took great care of the clients who took portraits.

MLK Weekend

Monday, January 17 was the MLK Holiday and so I decided to post a "MLK Day" Special to my clients and shoot all day Monday.

I didn't think so many folks would respond, enough to where I had to add Saturday and Sunday to the weekend special. I was tired by end of the weekend, but the shoots were fun.

I've posted a couple shots from this weekend of Britany and Valencia. Brit grabbed a saxophone and used that as her "prop". She did a good job as did Valencia who loved the green wingback chair. Kayla was asked to make a visit a couple dayz prior to the special, and she was fantastic to work with. More images coming soon from the weekend.

Its been a long time, so it seems, since Kevin B. Watkins Photography found that the Savage Mills Studio and the 3DStudio both closed.

The closing left not only Kevin B. Watkins Photography out in the cold, but other reputable photographers as well.

Well..........time has moved on, and Kevin B. Watkins Photography is happy to announce the opening of his new studio, called Studio46. Studio46, formerly 3DStudio, marks its opening with its first photo shoots on November 1, 2010.

Since the closing of the Savage and 3D studio, several of Kevin B. Watkins Photography's clients were agreeable to shooting on location, in most cases within the same building that houses Studio46. Kevin B. Watkins would like to say "thank you" to all of them and welcome them to a special shoot just for them in Studio46. Pictured are a few of them that worked on-location with Kevin B.

SUNNI MONE' : DMV'S HOTTEST FEMCEE

Sunni Mone', one of DMV's recently completed a photo shoot with Kevin B. Watkins Photography. After weeks of communication with her managing company 2 Strong Management, her shoot was finally scheduled last weekend. Shooting on location at Studio 3D in Baltimore, MD and TheSavageStudio in Savage Mill, MD, I attempted to do something I'm not accustomed to. The challenge was to try not portray Sunni as a fashion model or an R&B singer, but rather as the poet turned aspiring hip hop/rap artist that she has set her sights on becoming! Sunni recently released her debut mixtape entitled "The Wake Up Call". Three music videos have been released since for songs featured on the mixtape. She is also a songwriter for R&B and Pop talents.

The 4 hour shoot took on a different perspective but I think we pulled it off.
